Fresh Choice (Part 4 of 4)
Updated: Aug 28, 2023
How do you make choices? Do you rely on your head? Your heart? Your gut? Do you ask people for their advice? Do you close your eyes and point??!! Hahaha! But seriously...how do you make a choice?
I used to do all of the above "back in the day". And sometimes, when I'm slipping or being lazy, I still try to rely solely on those things. It's not horrible to use your head, heart and gut to make choices, I mean...this is very typical of humans to use these means. It's intuition. But I think there's an even better way!
The WAY, of course, is Jesus! You knew that was coming...I know! Since becoming Catholic, I make choices in a very different way than before. I consider things in a more reflective, serious and conscious way. I try to think about how my choices will affect myself and others. Will my choice hurt myself or others? Will my choice cause damage to my future or someone else's future? Will my choice land me in the Confessional? Is my choice one of the "warning "commandments in the Ten Commandments? If Jesus were standing next to me...would I make the same choice?
I realize this is a lot to consider when making a choice! I guess I'm using this as a guideline for big decisions and choices. I can really ponder all these things when trying to make a good educated choice when I have the time. But what do you do when you are presented with a spur of the moment choice? Can you think quickly on your feet and make a wise choice? I personally think it takes time and practice to become a wise "chooser". And age...age usually helps with wisdom! I think the more you make good choices...the more you will do just that! It's like working out a muscle...the more you do it...the stronger it becomes.
When Christ is your solid foundation and you respect His boundaries and loving guidelines, you will be more apt to make better choices. Choose Christ...He is now and always will be the best choice!
